Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser coming up April 27 — join in!

Jen Weber and her dog, Duke, will be taking part in Great Strides. Jen has lived with cystic fibrosis for 51 years!
Jennifer Weber and her dog, Duke, will be walking to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research. She has had three double-lung transplants as a result of the disease.

Save the date and let’s raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation! The fundraiser will be held April 27th at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis!

My team, Weber’s Walkers, will be walking for a cure and raising funds to cure CF during Great Strides Indianapolis. If you need proof your dollars are working, consider this:

* When I first started fundraising for CF, in my grade school years, there was not a single gene identified for CF – or anything like the targeted treatments offered today to manage the worst symptoms. Thanks to research substantially supported by the CF Foundation, there are now an estimated 2,000 identified genes – and targeted treatments for many of them (not all). These are NOT cures!

* The average life expectancy was around 8-to-10-years old, an age when I was first campaigning for CF research and standing up for many dying from the same disease. It was frankly heartbreaking but motivating for me to do something, anything, even at my young age. My family and I knew this and it is why I still stand strong today in the legacy of so, so, many.

The average life expectancy is still not normal, but improving at 61! Most with CF still experience days filled managing chronic health issues – if  not severe lung disease — diabetes and pancreatic/GI issues, osteoporosis, sinus disease, liver disease, and other co-occurring C- related conditions (like me).

* Lung transplants have dropped dramatically thanks to improved treatments, but we know many people like me who didn’t have access to the newer treatments and needed them. The CF foundation LEADS in supporting research and treatment for chronic rejection and infection management.

So please consider how you can help support and propel CF and transplant research across the finish for a cure! It’s more necessary now than ever before that funding cuts and other measures not stop this progress! Let’s all be In It to End It – Until it is Done!

The “walk” is a lap around Victory Field at your leisurely pace. No training required for this one; come for the fun!
